Malaysia sets Aug 30 as deadline for illegal migrant workers to return home

Malaysia has urged all illegal migrant workers to return to their respective countries within August 30.
Malaysian Home Ministry, issuing a press statement on Thursday, informed that August 30 was the last date for illegal migrant workers to return back home. The Malaysian government is preparing to take action against any worker or employment company failing to meet the dead line, read the statement.
On February 16, 2017, the Malaysian government introduced a ‘Three plus one programme’ that allows undocumented workers to take temporary work permits following legal procedures or pay fines at the immigration office and return back home.
The Malaysian government last year had set a deadline from October 10 to December 31 for undocumented migrant workers to get a legal permit to stay and work in the country. The deadline was later extended to June 30.
The statement read that the deadline for the ‘Three plus one programme’ will not be extended further.
